Rolling Stones, Black and Blue Billboard, 1976

The billboard for the 1976 Rolling Stones record album titled “Black and Blue” caused an uproar on the Sunset Strip from the moment it first appeared. A women’s group protested the imagery by adding their own graffiti message, and within days Atlantic records had it taken down. Robert’s photo in black and white, one of the few taken in that brief time, was published in that week’s issue of Rolling Stone magazine insuring the bad boys of rock and roll even more national exposure than the billboard itself would have ever garnered.
